DENVER – Minnesota-Duluth could add to its trophy cabinet at the 2015 USA Rugby College 7s National Championships after going undefeated through pool play at University of Denver Saturday.

The Men’s Division II Cup Quarterfinals, originally scheduled for Saturday night, were moved to Sunday morning due to multiple weather delays in the metro capital of Colorado.

Coast Guard recovered from a 26-7 defeat to the Fighting Penguins to grab the sixth seed in the Men’s DII competition, while Minnesota-Duluth beat its opponents handedly to finish No. 1 after day one.

St. Louis also earned three wins in Pool B with Wisconsin-Whitewater, East Carolina, and Vassar, to secure the second seed in the Cup Quarterfinals. Notre Dame College, James Madison, and North Carolina-Wilmington each went 2-1 in Pool C, with the Falcons taking the pool with three points for the difference between them and the Dukes.

With the first match of the day at College 7s, reigning champion Principia kicked off its campaign with a 35-12 win against Providence. The repeat title bid was squashed, however, when the Fighting Penguins shut out Principia, 38-0, and Coast Guard scored two tries in two minutes to eek out a needed win.

The Cup Quarterfinals will kick off on Ciber Field and Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium at 8 a.m. MT Sunday. USA Rugby TV will provide the live stream of Sunday’s matches on the aforementioned fields, while ESPN3 will broadcast the Cup Finals on Ciber Field from 4-6 p.m. MT.
