LAWRENCE, Kans – The Heart of America conference will be represented by the University of Arkansas at the 2013 Emirates Airline USA Rugby College 7s National Championship following its victory at the conference championship Saturday, Sept. 21. The Razorbacks were the top seed based on 2012’s results, and they lived up to their number-one billing. Arkansas won its first three matches leading up the finals, but would be tested by an improving University of Missouri club. Mizzou impressed in pool play all three matches by a combined score of 89-12. The Tigers continued their furious pace in the Cup Semifinals by knocking off Kansas State 39-0. However, a determined Arkansas squad would halt Missouri’s four-match winning streak. Senior Razorbacks captain Ryan Ellison believes a distinct style of play helped them defeat their opponent in the finals. “We beat Missouri by playing with patience, didn’t run into contact and used communication to move the ball,” he said.
